Oddly for a Tajima (or any other of the speckled stones) a medium hard stone that does self-slurry when it is freshly lapped. Of course it will glaze with time and start burnishing rather than cutting but this can be overcome by lapping it regularly. It is on the finer end of medium grit spectrum finishing around 3k with nice contrast and a very toothy edge.
This seems to be the rest of a very big stone that was used a lot which should tell you something about it’s quality. It measures 164x72x43.
