I pre-ordered the perpetually out of Takamura SG2 Migaki 210mm Gyuto and it arrived last night. Looked great until I noticed that the tip was missing. It was also not in the plastic sleeve which was crumpled at the tip. It looks like some returned it. Where else in the chain would it end up like this.

Now what? It is insanely sharp right up to the broken tip. The obvious answer is to return it for full refund and get back on the waiting list. But I almost hate to let it go and wonder whether seeking a partial refund for the damage is even something to consider.

Has anyone negotiated a partial refund? What would be a fair price for a knife damaged in this way? Picture included.

I think it depends on your sharpening/repair skills. If you feel like doing the repair, then ask for some compensation. If not, then I’d return it. I personally wouldn’t want to use it without repairing - it looks like a decent chunk broke off.

There’s tons of other lasers you can consider vs waiting for this particular one to come back in stock.

It's not a big problem. I think you should be able to get a 50% refund. It's also easy to fix it yourself. About 5 minutes on a low-grit whetstone should do the trick. Shipping back and forth costs more money and wastes time. I would choose a 50% refund and sharpen it myself.
