Here’s a chance to own a piece of KKF history…
This is an older (2013-2014) Takeda NAS Large Gyuto I got from Tosho Knife Arts, before the grinds became thicker. It has a custom handle (black & white ebony with nickel-silver and mammoth tooth spacer, and bog oak ferrule, signature “honu” inlay is lapis lazuli) from KKF legendary Hawaiian handle maker Mikey (mkriggen), and black & white ebony saya from Nick at CommonTrade. I also have another older more basic saya (stained walnut) from Duy at Duy Pham Blades (it was made from a tracing that I scanned and emailed to him as a PDF, the fit is quite impressive).
The blade is 274mm x 61-62mm blade (takeda have a bit of a “curve” toward the heel) and weighs 247g. It hasn’t been sharpened by me, but has been touched up professionally in the past by Jon (JKI) and Andrew Tarling (fortyknives). Sometimes if there are big fluctuations in temperature or humidity (it gets really cold here in winter) the ebony saya gets tight and you can “feel” the spacers in the handle. Not like some of the old Teryuasu Fujiwara wabi sabi, but something that can happen with custom spacers and friction fit saya.
I’m asking $700USD plus shipping, which can vary depending on the destination and method; I can ship via DHL, post office, other courier of your choice, or possibly meet up in the Western Canada region (I’ll be driving from MB to AB sometime this summer). Discounts are available if purchased as a package deal with some other BST items I’ve listed:
