Thanks guys.
That is a beautiful piece of art.

It is. Unfortunately, this yanagiba will never be used as i think its really a collectors piece. For those who are willing to go out hunting for the other 13 pieces. LOL.

I think so. Hope this piece will be able to find a new owner.

I believe I have one of the ‘13’ you are referring to?
A little while ago a Purveyor offered these knives that they ‘discovered’ and ‘conditioned’ from Shosui’s Shop.

I first met Shosui many years ago at a Knife Show where he was sitting with his ever present smile sharpening away.
I purchased a double edged 23 cm slicer and found the edge extraordinary!
I ordered and had delivered at various Knife Shows a single edged Deba, Nakiri, very large Chinese Chef’s knife and lastly a “Single-edged Yanagibabocho Aogami Super Steel 30cm with Ebony Handle”.
(description from email from Shuko Ichikawa).
I had started with a Commercial knife 23cm purchased from Yamasho in Chicago many many years ago.
As I learned my knife skills, I wanted a longer blade and as I learned about the Culture of Japanese Knife Making and Usage, I wanted a knife from the best that at the time that rarely made it out of Japan.
At that time Murray Carter was working in Japan and agreed to broker a knife from Kenichi Shiraki.
I ordered a 27cm blade and after a few years wanted a longer blade, hence the 30cm Takeda.
The Kenichi is a work of art, ebony, ivory and silver with mirror polish.
Each will get the job done preparing Shushi and Sashimi.
The Kenichi has lost some of it’s polish over the years.
I have to assume that in 2006, Shosui made a number of these single edge blades while making mine?
It appears that the Purveyor had a very nice Saya and box made for your knife.
I hope this Post helps with the History of these knives.
-Richard
BTW It is shame that Takeda will not deal with orders anymore and only will sell thru the after market.

Some of the info can be found here:

This knife was purchase during the chrsitmas release last year at tosho knife arts. The polishing of this yanagiba was done by Ivan Fonseca. Was stated in the website when i purchased it. very nice kasumi finish.

Thanks for the link to Tosho and the finishing of the knives.
Mine is being used on a weekly basis.
As I Posted, mine is from 2006 and the others are 2008.
So, why make 14 blades and leave them sit in the shop?
We will probably never know.

It's a pretty simple Google to find 5 of the other ones that are listed for sale. They are all available from one shop (but none as long or as nice as the one you've listed)

Small 150mm Deba Shosui made for me!
Delivered at the 2007 Chicago Knife Show.
The knives on Hitohira website are probably the only the only way you can get a single bevel Takeda?
