I've been working on tapering hardened steel tangs and comfortable with the process now so I thought I would share how.
Using the surface grinder takes a little longer, but once it's done and off the machine, it's done, it's flat, it's centered and there's almost nothing to mess with afterwards.
This is a utility hunter custom order, but the execution applies to kitchen knife full tangs as well.
first a cleanup pass on both sides
I don't have a magnetic sine plate so I glue the blade to the sine plate.
the angle desired per side is calculated and the sine plate set
you can see the taper walking up the tang

and voila!. then you flip it over for the other side and adjust the sine angle accordingly
I have a few Z wear kitchen knives with full tangs I'll be doing soon,
