For sale is a Ichimonji cleaver and a Fujiwara Maboroshi 240mm wh1 gyuto.

The Maboroshi was originally bought brand new for $470ish. Had district cutlery thin the hell out of it with shinogi line raised ($80+return shipping). Excellent cutter that zips through everything, measures 238mm by 50mm, scale at home died so I’ll have to weigh it at work later. Roughly 230 grams is my guess. Cladding on right side is getting close to the edge as I tried to demonstrate, more or less was like this when bought new but it’s hard to say (wabi sabi bro 😎). Me being left handed makes this difficult as I’m a lot better at thinning the left side of blades my opposite side is somewhat sloppier. Handle seems fine to me you be the judge. I dunno I’m $570 into this one but with approaching thinning work expected I think I’ll offer it for $370 shipped?

Ichimonji #1 or #100?
220x90 mm
387 grams
3.5 mm out of the handle, slight taper
Slightly lighter and shorter version of the famous #6. This is for those that might find most cleavers to be way too heavy in use. Not sure how much these might go for new, maybe around $300? Anyhow bought off a forum member for $220 putting it up for sale for $150 shipped. Did a couple of test cuts got minor patina, never sharpened. Steel should be Wh2.

Here’s a better look at the cladding that concerns me in the near future. Like I said being a lefty Id much prefer this stuff happen on the left side and I’d deal with it just fine with a couple of sessions.

That’s a Ichimonji no.1, good stuff

Just to clear things up a bit and I apologize for repeatedly bumping my own thread….the member that sold me this cleaver seems to have it in good authority that it is made by Sugimoto thus sold it to me as a Sugimoto and yesterday I posted the cleaver for sale labeled as a Sugimoto. However it is an Ichimonji branded cleaver.
“These are OEM by Sugimoto for Sakai Ichimonji and other retailers like Kiya. The dimensions and finishing (the hairline finish, sandblasting and grind marks) match up exactly with the Sugimoto #1 cleaver, the only difference I could tell is the handle which is an older model Sugimoto used.”

While the above statement seems plausible I’m not really able to verify the statement on my own. Similarities are there visually and and OEM is quite common in Japan.

Should also mention the member that sold me the cleaver has a lot of cleaver experience, and a lot of Sugimotos in his collection past and present and consider the Ichimonji one and the same as Sugimoto.

Thanks

Gonna withdraw the TF for now. Used it over the weekend, still enjoy it. Guess I’ll break out my 220 grits.
Cleaver can’t stay with me. I’ll never use a cleaver. Someone make me an offer or trade me a stone or 2 for it.
