I've had a package sent to me from Hong Kong. It arrived with USPS in LA (where I live) just fine. But then it inexplicably went to San Francisco, then back to LA, then back to SF, then back to LA three times. Like it was stuck in an infinite loop.

Every time a parcel containing a knife being carried by DHL (which is the most reliable and expedient service in my experience) goes through Europe, it stops at the Frankfurt hub and inevitably they open the parcel, ruin the packaging, then hastily / carelessly repackage the item (which places it at risk). Every time.

Why is it if any package goes through Germany, it takes days to weeks?!? It has been there for about five days. Meanwhile another package out of the EU, not through Germany, that was shipped 5-6 days after, has already arrived in the states.

I’ve had a few go through Frankfurt and Leipzig (DHL Express) and they were there for less than a day. I think it depends on the carrier?

(That is long enough for ‘them’ to open the parcel, ruin the nice packaging inside and displace the knife so that it is in peril)

Yes, that's always been the case for me with FedEx and UPS. I don't recall if I've had DHL go through Germany.

For obvious reasons, this thread is mostly about *ordered* knives, but it seems like it might be a usueful place to ask about sending them. What would people recommend for sending US->Germany? It seems like it will cost about $50, im not sure if that sounds right, and im leaning fedex. But I don't think ive sent any before so happy to taoe advice.

You may want to ask the receiver which carrier works good in their area.

As well, one thing to be very aware of, and I'm not sure how it is for Germany, is that customs can be very, very sensitive about the word knife on the customs paperwork. I've used "Kitchen Cutlery" for everything crossing a border.

And going into the EU, duty will be an issue. It will be charged on your declared value. And generally declared value must equal insured value if you want to insure the package against loss.

looks like they kicked it back to the distro center, which could mean there was an issue with the label, etc. that prevented the locals from thinking they could deliver it. I would suggest visiting you local PO and asking the manager to look into it. But I'm saying this late Saturday afternoon and Monday is a federal holiday, so you would not be able to do so until Tuesday. And there's a good chance it will have moved elsewhere by then.

Does it make sense to include an AirTag in these kinds of shipments? If I were running a passaround I would want to drop one in the box. I appreciate there are privacy concerns but those can be addressed by popping the battery out for the week.

Currently have a USPS package that was meant to be on its way to Ontario Canada, and originated in Maryland, but has been sitting in Sacramento CA for 15 days. I'm trying to file a claim, but because i'm not a domestic client, USPS is giving me major grief. FML, have to set up accounts now.
