Hey all! Been a while since I've been around here just wanted to see what is going on with Toyama. I have a 240 I eventually want to sell and last time I was following makers I heard he retired. Is he still retired? Anyone able to tell me a roundabout amount that a ss clad 240 Gyuto would be priced around? (From jns) Thanks!

No, he is not retired. He is 83 years old and has back and hip problems. Took some time off but he is back forging and sharpening but maybe not at his full capacity. Watched a video of him a few weeks ago polishing and sharpening one of his knives.

U can search Toyama 240 titles on the forum and make your reference. Also, check JNS and Watanabe websites.

This sale thread says $576 was recent pricing. BST pricing seems like it's bounced around in the $375-450 range in the last year or two which has always surprised me a bit given that JNS and zahocho sell out pretty consistently. The dammy and ironclad versions definitely command a premium vs SS clad but all of the migaki ones I've tried are really good performers.

If it is of any help to you - I payed roughly 70.000 yen for a 240mm Watanabe, shipping included, in march.
Can't remember what the total was with customs tho.
Probably somewhere around 500~ish euros.

Also, the last listings on Zahocho for the KU version were around 430 euros.

Last I checked, going prices were in the 450-550 usd range for 240. Higher from some vendors.

I paid 69000 yen for a watanabe incl Shipping eecently which is <<500€.
JNS sells the Toyama 240mm gyuto for 750€ which you can easily google.
Although sold out you can find links to these.
