(NEW) Wakui 241x50mm Gyuto
W#2, stainless clad
Custom Burnt White Oak Handle
Brand new, never used, never sharpened. Hammered version of Wakui that I got a little while back but never used. I have too many Wakui's at the moment and need to downsize a bit. This knife has the typical Wakui profile, Sanjo style taper, and forward balance that I really enjoy. Based on my measurements of the grind, I expect this one to be more on the workhorse side compared to the thinner migaki versions. Grind is 50/50 full convex on both sides up to the shinogi, with a hammered finish up to the spine.
I don't normally sell my personal custom handles, but this particular handle felt like it went really well with the blade. Material is burnt white oak, which is different than the often used red oak. White oak is naturally water resistant, and used for barrels and boat building. I torched it, finished with 2 coats of hardwax oil and allowed to fully cure. There is some taper from back to front, and sized to maintain the original balance of the blade. Clean fit-up with hot melt glue, in case you decide to remove it in the future. Additional photos here if you're interested.
