A bijou but not really because it uses amaro but this amaro is close in spirit to a sweet vermouth so still a bijou???

Too much vanilla / new oak flavor for me for a barbaresco, but overall pretty ok for the price.

Sake night. This one’s pretty good, much better than the other one with a whale on the label.

Something besides just Japanese characters on a Sake bottle is really helpful for us confused Westerners. I couldn't list most of the sake I've tried, but I do know one I had in Japan and loved, because it has a big white rabbit on the label. I wonder whether I will ever cross its path again.

Well yeah but the English name is only on the label on the back, whereas this image is what you’d see on the label on the shelf. I don’t mind but I thought it’d be more helpful to see the front of the label. The name is “Kouiku 54 gou junmai ginjo”. It’s by Suigei shuzo. They have another whale one that isn’t nearly as good.

Had this last night at Restaurant Anarki in Copenhagen. Fantastic, much better than the barbaresco I previously posted.

IMHO the problem with too much oak in wine (not the established great wines that need decades to mature) stems from a few wine reviewers making many wineries being tempted to 'dive for the ball', Parker points shoot up the more oak is used.

My mom and pop love lots of oak in wine. And that's fine.

I just don't want my barbaresco tasting like vanilla bourbon.

Very cool, I would sure like to try that. Cab Franc is probably my favorite grape, but never tried one from Friuli.
If you weren’t half a world away, I’d send you one. But that’s a tangle. Coming to New England in the US anytime foreseeable? I’ll save one for you!
I’ve only seen it this once, while visiting relatives in Virginia. It has some qualities of good Loire cab franc, but without the pungency that sometimes takes three hours to resolve.

Thank you, you're very kind, but nope no travel plans. But if I'm ever headed your way I'll let you know!

Laphroaigh 10 cask strength. Easily in my top 3 whiskies tasted so far.

I tracked down this one and it arrived today, it's nice and has good varietal character but quite a bit softer in both tannins and acidity than my Loire favorites and I miss that structure. I got a couple of bottles of Olga Raffault Les Picasses 2017 in the same order, looking forward to that!
