the back of a sturdy knife, knock while rotating the nut so you make circle and it usually cracks open along the line.

Used to open green coconuts with a machete because that's what I had when I went to tropical beaches.

Old coconuts the house? Probably the spine of a Himalayan Imports khukuri.

Breaking the nut is easy, a simple wack on the concrete drive is enough. Getting the husk off is the more difficult part.

I use a meat cleaver for opening coconuts. Rotating the coconut around as you crack the top open
