Not a fan because:
-ventilation is a problem
-no backsplash means you're just getting your island dirty everytime you fry or saute anything

And most importantly... you're not a teppanyaki restaurant. TV cooking shows use this setup simply because it's convenient for filming. Putting chairs or stools at the island is nice, but you don't actually need the stove on your island to be able to socialize around your kitchen island.
Hahaha. I'd be splashing hot grease on the dinner guests.

Got a new toy for the outdoor kitchen, a commercial countertop convection oven (half sheet pan size). Solved a lot of problems with our large family gatherings and the need for more oven space. Also I think it will be a better oven for baking bread, seeing it is a sealed convection. Tried it out with a loaf of bread... everything I read said to turn the temp down when changing to convection. The bread came out great but the crust was not as thick and crisp so next time the temp will go up. Its always a learning curve.

Our house has a section that comes out of the wall next to dining room windows. It kind of separates the dining room from the kitchen. It is a nice feature has a plug outlet keep coffee maker & grinder permanent. Rice cooker, blender, panini press only when used store away. It's next to the stove so a good place to plate out finished meal. Good design Japanese builder early 1950's. Also sliding wooden screen between dining & living room we keep it open all the time.

Chinese, stir frying indoors because of strong winds outside...good test for the induction hob and extraction fan...

Completely forgot to take pics of the plated food....too hungry...

What a joy to have a steam oven again!

Steamed bok choy with sizzling oil
Garlic and fermented black bean chicken with some twists
Romain with sesame paste, aged black vinegar dressing

verdict on stir frying; works very well
verdict on extraction fan; pretty damn good for a recirculation system (with a plasma filter)
