Where is Mazaki??

I’ve been keeping my eye out for new drops of Mazaki’s hon San mai line for ages, but they seem to have dried up.

He also only seems to have had one big drop of the pre lam line at Carbon earlier this year so far, thankfully with an older school profile.

Is he so busy producing knives for the other brands and lines we know and love to speculate on that he’s tapered off production under his own name?

MyDoya has the 240 dammy available and Ikkyu got some kurouchi in stock. Don't know when they dropped unfortunately. Also the 210 dammy on CKC

Edit: He's speculated to be the blacksmith behind multiple Hatsukokoro lines.

Supposedly the Yorokobi is by the same blacksmith as the Komorebi but with the core steel and aesthetics, I personally think it points away from Mazaki.

Vent; It’s incredibly disappointing really, just a generic damascus from him that’s not prelaminated is around 2k now, generic honyaki 2k, you want some basic wrought iron guess what it has to be super boring and clean and… you guessed it 2k

But you want a prelaminated kurochi? Well that’s only $300! Like WTF?

He had better be carful because he’s quickly turning into a forgotten legacy while becoming multiple generic imaginary blacksmiths

I think a lot of people who own his damascus and honyaki have realized this and you see them attempting to liquidate the knives at lower and lower prices

Why? Because $300 (generic) vs $2k (generic)
Honestly his inexpensive kurochi knives are far more interesting than anything else he is making right now and they’re only $300!

One more thing, we just paid $1,200 for a custom Togashi honyaki, why in the world would we pay 2k for a generic unfinished Mazaki honyaki?

If we’re going to pay 2k for damascus we can all think of a far far more interesting construction for that kind of money

I'm kind of confused where it came from... his honyaki is probably finished lower than Wakui's... but cost 3-4x more. Is Mazaki just super popular in China or something? IIRC the original incident with KnS involved a Chinese retailer. Does anyone know what the prices involved were?

I think his lower end stuff is doing fine in China, Xinguo actually said he really like Mazaki’s heat treatment, very refined.

I was a fan of Mazaki until the unexpected crazy high price tiers of his Damascus and Aogami knives. And then came the god awful triangle profile.
Needless to say, I've lost interest for now.
