Where do I find like rusty, chipped or knives with snapped tips? Looked everywhere and made a Reddit post but can’t find anything

(In AUS)

FYI, as an Aussie if you try Yahoo Japan/Buyee you'll pay gst on the goods + freight even if under $1000aud.

I'd expect the other proxies to be the same.

ebay has a bunch. If you search for example "gyuto" and filter "used" there are a ton of multi-knife lots of used rusted stuff
i'll have a look, seen a bunch of knives like on ads that but they usually seem to be western or ****** knives

found some knives, how do i know if they are good steel or such though?
Don't know what you are after, but if you are not gyuto-focused, then it's worth checking traditional Japanese blades - deba, yanagi, etc. Those are usually of better quality than double bevel ones.
Good luck with the search!

You dont. But if you're after rusted and chipped knives in the first place, how good are you expecting? Chances are, if the knife were very valuable, the owner wouldn't let it get to that condition in the first place.
As far as European vintages are concerned, it is a little more complex. The most sought for and most expensive vintages are from times — pre WW2 — when steel composition wasn't that well controlled. From time to time you encounter unwanted inclusions causing serious problems, up to hairline breakage.
More frequent are other issues you don't see from photos. Overgrinds, and steel that has become weak by excessive steeling or uncooled sharpening on grinding wheels which was perfectly common in Europe. That's what makes vintages relatively rare: most are simply ground away.
I have no own experience with Japanese vintages. I would guess maintenance by stone sharpening is more common. Which would make a heavily neglected Japanese carbon from the sixties a safer option than any used European knife.
Anyway, I would stay away from any vintage stainless. Decent stainless knives are a relatively recent development.

Not a nice knife, I don’t expect anything’s no over 200 absolute max, but I also don’t want something like kiwi level steel

Looking for a nakairi, or anything else that really stands out but mostly nakiri

Here in the US I have had very good luck at flea markets and roadside antique marts. Not for Japanese steel, but there is plenty of vintage American, English, German, French, Chinese carbon etc to be found. But I haven't had a chance to go antiquing down under so I don't know if they really helps you.

Don’t see antique shops much around here, closest thing is charity shops

Hang on a second - why don’t you throw up a wtb? theres gotta be plenty of aussie/kiwi/Asia members that have quality project knives they never started or finished.

Better to have a chat about it than random buy scrap metal from unknown sellers, imo.
