I have a Maboroshi 165mm bunka that I’m looking to get done up by someone that is experienced and skilled at such things. Here’s what I’m looking to get done:

- rehandle (have a ho wood handle atm)
- thin and regrind
- round spine and choil

I’m in the US and I know District Cutlery is well known for their TF regrinds, and K&S does rehandling, but I don’t know of a place/person that does it all. Anybody have any recommendations?

JKI does both, but I don't think they're taking any re-grinding work right now. There are some craftsmen/members in the forum that can also do both, but you'll have to see what their availability looks like.

I would reach out to Fortyknives. Not sure about handles but if you supply he may be able to fit. He's the one I would trust to sympathetically regrind the bevels.

I wouldnt be surprised if DC or anyone who will regrind it would be willing to rehandle it if you asked. It's also really pretty easy to swap a handle yourself and doesnt take much skill or experience.

I have a TF 240mm gyuto, Denka, that I bought second hand after thesharpeningguy.com did a cleanup. He did a good job. Clean, even, a bit of faint edge to spine scratch pattern (which I find is easier to maintain than mirror, kasumi and similar finishes). Lost a bit of the forged finish, but it performs like a beast, so small price to pay.

I have an inbound 210 from TF in Japan. Hopefully it won't have issues, but if so I'd send it to same guy based on what I see on the 240. I also have a couple knives on their way to District Cutlery, one looking for them to tweak out some issues. I'll be able to compare their work to https://thesharpeningguy.com/services/ . So at least I will have a reference for future work.
