It happens seemingly randomly for the same threads: sometimes the button is there and then sometimes it disappears.

I suspect there is some sort of knob in the forum settings that enables this behaviour.

Here is an example of this. Clearly, other people can like posts in this thread, but I can't.

There's been discussion about the "like" function a couple times and the general consensus is always not to have it. The better question is why is it there for some threads?

I like the knob analogy.

Even though I like lots of things in the "Whats Cooking? Food, Drink, & Gear" thread, I can't like any of them :(

There was a vote a while back to not have LIKES, many thought it was a popularity contest or such. At the time of the vote, I had them enabled. I thought I had disabled all of them after the vote showed not to have them. I must have missed some, and will be pulling all of them. Maybe later we can do another vote/poll for having them. I 'like' them, but on this I need to listen to the membership here.

I've found that I can't like in certain sections, even where other people have liked a post - I can view likes, but not add my own.

I like that I'm not alone in this. Makes me feel better…
Yes, same here. I know sometimes there are informative or insightful parts that I learn a lot from, but it would clutter the thread to post just to that effect.

I thought I had them ALL turned off. This forum voted not to have likes.
If I'm good enough, the rest of them will be gone. Sorry guys. But most do not want likes.

I plugged the loophole I had accidentally left open when the members and forum admin/mod decided not to have likes.

I mean now the like buttons disappeared for me in many threads I just went...I dunno what happened (seriously, not joking) (also tested on iPad, the same as my desktop)

I miss being able to give likes... :(
Me too. I find likes useful to acknowledge to someone that, yes, I've read their message and taken it into account, without having to clutter up the thread with a "thanks" or "I agree".

I don't like it at all when I can't like something… ;)
