Yeah I was against the like button at first, but when we stopped doing it I missed it.
Sometimes I have nothing to add and I just want to agree with a statement. I think of it as an “agree” button.
This is a positive thing as I think it puts more power and recognition behind certain comments thus legitimacy.
All comments on this forum should not be treated equally lol. Sometimes people say really great things and it’s healthy to give the good stuff an elevated status.

My only concern is that people will modify their behavior due to wanting to be liked, don't want this to turn into a "like" race.... Sometimes 'likes' are useful though i just want a 'dislike';) button too

Angie has to do a bit more than twitch her nose for this to happen. Pls post any subforums/threads that you can't like. Not to be confused with subforums/threads that you don't like.

Seems unlikely to me. I mean, what am I going to do with the
likes I get? It’s not as if I could sell them…

    Oh really? ;-)

But do put what forms the Like is not working
It will help me. I have to check about 5 or so settings for each forum to make sure it works for everyone.

You’d be surprised, but let’s hope this forum is different... I agree with @labor of love it didn’t seem to happen before so will most likely be ok.

“Some people say, "Give the customers what they want." But that's not my approach. Our job is to figure out what they're going to want before they do. I think Henry Ford once said, "If I'd asked customers what they wanted, they would have told me, 'A faster horse!'" People don't know what they want until you show it to them. That's why I never rely on market research. Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page.” - Steve Jobs

All bullshitting aside, the reason I basically stopped coming here for a while was due to the removal of the like button. Might sound like a small thing, but as I have said before I really disliked having to quote a post just to write LIKE or +1 and always felt like a bit of a rebel for doing so. I am a boss myself, so I do not really encourage or appreciate rebelliousness too much but I do understand why it happens - you treat people like children and you will get a child response.

Just checking on this thread and I find this extra interesting. I find it interesting that you sorta stopped due to not having the LIKE. I am not sure if you saw the poll some time back to remove the LIKE. This is the only forum that I’ve ever seen that on. But I did what the poll showed.

Now recently, I’ve seen this thread and the LIKE replies on other threads (heck, I’ve done it myself) so, I decided to test something and it did not do exactly what I was trying. I consulted with the other wizards (admins and mods) of OZ ( aka KKF) and am adding it back.

It will be tomorrow before I get back to the checking all the forums. I like to use the laptop instead of tablet to do the Admin area work. So hang in with me, and keep listing forums that I need to check on first.

Everyone have a fun and great weekend.

Maybe sometimes it's more important to go with the flow at the moment than to be right. You can always be right later! But then again, my leadership tendencies do verge between populistic and tyrannical :)

See some people change their behavior because of the like button or the lack of it, this is hilarious, to stop visiting a forum because the like button was removed:D

Although... now that the like button is back... I am going to have to go all contrarian and continue to manually type "Like" or "+1".... you know - the old system is always better...

... of course, you'd be a mean person if you held me to it.... :p

    (In all seriousness... Yay!)

I'm less irked by the button than the process. If you wanted to force the issue then why bother asking people their opinion, just add the button and say suck it (the end result)...makes this place hard to distinguish from everything else on internet...but i guess that's the goal?

I have to agree. You have the poll, decision is made, then someone complains and then all of a sudden the poll is ignored. So why have it in the first place. Take a stand one way or another.

Absolutely, but the whole forum is the definition of 'the first world problems' and that's ok.

I think it's okay to change then change it back. Sometimes you don't realize if you miss something or not until it's gone.

I really like having the like button for some things, especially the new knife thread. I might not have anything to say, but I might still like somebody's new knife. As most people like being heard and/or receive affirmation, having the like button there and in other places is a simple way to let people signal approval or appreciation. It's kind of like how the like function can subtly drive participation on some social media platforms.
