Hey guys and gals. I wanted to post a little Work In Progress thread.

Randy Jr. started forging some Meteorite for a new project. Not just any meteorite.. We are working with something different. Its from a Meteorite that was found in Egypt. Called Gebel Kamil.. They say it struck Egypt about 5000 years ago leaving a huge crater surrounded by thousands of pieces of iron shrapnel..

Some think it was the source of the metal used to make the Infamous King Tut Dagger..

Here are a few images of the Raw pieces he started with to forge this amazing set of kitchen knives!
Followed by a BUNCH of images of the process and some info about each step. etc.

Please Ask questions if ya have any. SHARE the link to this thread on social media to help build KKF and get more exposure.

    Thanks and God Bless
    Randy

Day one. The pieces are first put on a handle Then into the forge. Each piece is worked a little bit in this phase.
The resulting material is gathered up from the floor and then put together into 2 piles. and back into the forge. then worked just a little bit.

The resulting pieces are cleaned up a bit and the process is repeated again.

Meteorite is not easy work! The meteorite I’ve worked with was crumbly and didn’t want to weld. It was a real challenge! Its a different beast to work with.
The forging process needs to be done with care. And ALOT to refine the material. The process results in a material that is a more mono structure.. A material that is usable for our purpose.

Day 3. The chunk goes back into the forge and a whole day of forging later it starting to look more solid. and we have combined all the pieces into one block. That black was worked enough to fold over on itself. Then more forging and refining. This is really repetitive.. But the resulting piece is looking good, starting to move under the press more like a solid mono steel..

    Are you entertained???

Wow, there was enough to make a whole set of kitchen knives? Or to mix into a Damascus pattern with other steels? Or do we have to wait to find out? :D

Pretty cool pics! Thanks for sharing!

The plan is to combine the refined meteorite with high carbon steel to make damascus to use to make the set.

Happy to share. Please do the same and share this on social media, or on blogs or other places online.. ;)

    Looks very interesting!

Do you plan to add some material containing supplementive carbon?

Glad to see some of ya are liking the WIP!

And here are a few more images. This is a combination of MANY rounds of drawing and refining the meteorite. Then finally starting to combine it with high carbon steel. and starting to build the layer count. You can see in one of the images the 4 pieces of meteorite being welded to a bunch of layers of 1080
That bar is drawn and then restacked. many times.

And finally the damascus is forged and we cut and draw out the pieces to size for the set.

And here it is in all its amazing glory. Feather meteorite damascus..

Stunning HHH & Co! Sad you left out the 1000+ "other steps" but I think we get the point!

Very inspiring ... now off to count my pennies ... will likely need a truck load and well deserved!
