Hi all.

I've bin offered a Yoshimi Kato AS/Nashiji Gyuto. It's second hand, but barely used.

It's a 5 hour drive to the seller. So hard to see it before buying it. And that makes me ask.. any of you guys here knows the knife. And maybe have something good or bad to say about it?

Thanks 👍

One of my first Japanese knives that made me say “wow” when I used it. Hollow ground high wide bevels and a pretty good heat treat of aogami super. Would buy it if the price is right. But 5 hour drive to the seller? Plus 5 hours back? Unless you’re planning a day trip, is mailing the knife much more expensive? And can’t the seller send you some pics of the knife?

Sounds great!

Sorry if I was unclear, English is not my first language. The knife will be send by mail if I chose to buy it. What I meant was that the long drive makes it hard to see/hold the knive before buying it.

I have a Y Kato petty in stainless-clad AS that I really like. It’s very thin and both a great cutter and a great looker. His gyutos have a good reputation as well. If the photos look good and the price is right then I’d go for it.

I have the Nakiri, and it is a great performer. It is hollow ground and quite thin behind the edge. The steel feels a little brittle, but I have never chipped it. I think they are great value.

Great knife. I kave many from that line. Fairly heavy and meaty down to primary bevel and tapers down real thin.
