Thanks guys. Someone asked ..yes the blade (when put into the wood handle) isn't perfectly straight. The metal isn't bent it's just not square/center of the handle and feels awkward in hand. I'm trying to make another victorinox Rehandle as I enjoy it. My next one will be a blond/light color...
Cocobolo wood handle I made and it has the same dimensions as the saka takayuki cleaver handle I had. Blade is slightly leaning left if anyone knows how I can fix that? Could I burn it out and try again?
Can you recommend drill bit size? I'm just looking into tools I should buy. Someone said he uses a rikon 12" sander for most of his knife handles.
The video:
That sideways drill /laith seems nice. I only have an old craftsman 12inch drill press.
I recently moved to Portland Oregon from Canada and looking for blacksmiths or woodworkers that need anyone to help out. I'm free on weekends only and I'm cool with sweeping up around the shop and getting coffee.
I have a few projects I want to work on.
A handle I made
Really? Should I just buy a nice drill press vice ... Look at this classic Japanese factory. He uses a (wood lathe) and it takes seconds.
What is the name of these tools or anything similar people use? I would appreciate it.
Cool video.
What is the best and easiest way to get a nice rectangular hole to fit the tang.
Everyone says "drill multiple holes" but that is a terrible idea and method.
Any experience will be appreciated.
How old do you think my k sabatier knife is? I'm guessing 1950-60max. I have only been collecting antiques and sabatier for 1 year but I have several nogent and nice 4 star elephants .. but I would say this is one of the nicest and most refined carbon full tangs that Sabatier made. It's so thin...
K
Sabatier is the only visible marking on the handle. Knife is so nice and by far one of the thinnest carbon steel Sabatier blades I have seen so far. I want to get it nice and flat/straight on the wet stone.
I figured it's a bit high. I offered 80$ I think. But he thinks it's worth more. I told him the handle looks cracked etc. It's a very old knife though.. I think 1920s or earlier
The story starts with a friend telling me his grandfather was a cook for the US Navy in Southern USA.
He has a box of OLD Nogent lamson goodnow chef knives dated 1890-1930s
He said he wants 150$...for 1 8" nogent
Pic attached.
Don't worry. I just sanded everything 1000grit and 2000 grit on blade. What is the best video or information on thinning? I want to learn how to do it. I also have a beautiful lamson 1950s that needs thinning.
I can post a better high resolution picture of any markings on the blade.. when the blade arrives. It's getting shipped to me right now in the mail. Update in next few days.
What is age and any details on this knife? It says sabatier on the handle and I think it's 1950-1970s.. anybody know?
Ideally I want a web page or resource I can look up all the more popular logos and the dates they were produced.
(I understand Sabatier had many sub contracts etc)
But some...
