I saw this posted on his facebok, thought it'd be interesting to share.

he seemed to have collaborated with some Manga or Anime person.

here's a link to the article but I can't read Japanses.

I'd buy that for $200 no issues. Maybe I should email james. They'd be awesome knives for a teen girl and would probably cut well enough for a adult man. Heart one would also be epic for Valentine's day

Umm… I think you may have meant to post here:

Not knocking tanaka, but those prices :shocked3:. Godslayer did make a good point though too.

I may steal that handle design...

Stefan

I honestly don't think it's bad in anyway

it's suppose to be a bizarre design to fit a certain theme

It's not very often that you find a novelty item that's also highly functional

LMAO I missed he price part 200,000 yen, so for the price of a mizu honyaki from a top smith with laquer saya and exotic handle I can have butterflys, I wonder if they would have resale value in japan, I am unsure which anime they are associated with.

That butterfly would be great to hang onto with your left hand as you sharpened it on a stone !

They could sell it in a gift pack combined with that bling bling naniwa pull through sharpener....

People are crazy about manga in Japan as evidenced by the price of those knives. Wonder what the steel is...

Steel? With that price tag they can make 'em from compressed melted puppies and still make a profit...

Yeah haha but considering the target market I bet it's really like Vg-10

Actually I'm surprised they haven't come up with a VG-11 for Hello Cutty knives like these... "most steels go up to ten, but this steel goes to eleven..."

Wouldn't that be a Spinal Tap knife?

One point for you. :) And blame my lack of understanding of Japanese pop culture; to me everything pink and cute-ish is Hello Kitty. But I think the Spinal-Tap-Theorem is widely applicable to all forms of marketing...which in my opinion these things are the pinnacle of.

My colleague in Osaka passed me this pic this morning. Guess the timing of the show really tells the audience of the knife :p
