(I've never had an 'A-type', and I can't speak for this one, but)...Aritsuga A-type gyutos have a reputation of arriving NIB with barely any of the final grind or finished edge on board, of being a real 'be-yatch' to work on the stones, and for being as close to 99/1 as you'ld see in any production gyuto.
They also have the reputation of being amazing workhorses once tuned up.
I actually like the polish on the thinned blade road. Go figure. Up against the "brushed" machine finish it gives a yin-yang appearance to it. Then again, I'm easily dazzled by nonsense.
