Hi am new to this forum and also sharpening in general.
I bought two stones of which one is a combistone.
F220/400 and the second F1000 both zische.
As far as i can tell they are "hard" stones and i enjoy working on them.
A friend gave me some Osborn abrasive compound B1000 and F1000 ( i have no clue and was not able to find a source for particle size )
I have a long way to go to create good sharp knives but so far i enjoy it. Edge retention ( hope thats the right word ) is poor and they get dull fast.... which is kind of a good thing cause i enjoy my time sharpening.
As i was browsing the forum i saw knives with a "foggy" polish. Which i realy like visually.
So my plan was to create something similar on one of the knives.
Using the 220 i tried to thin the part behind the edge a bit and change the angle. Did not work as i was hoping but its a start.
I heated some oil and mixed in the compound and applied it with old newspaper.
For the top part i used the F1000 compound and for the "edge" part i used the B1000.
It worked fine but i am not sure if this the scratched in the lower part can be removed without loosing the satin look.
TLR
-Can i use newspaper to polish? Or do i scratch the steel ?
-Does anyone have knowledge or experience using abrasive compound to get a polish?
-Any tips / tricks how to get a satin finish ?
I uploaded 3 pictures but its surprisingly hard for me to get a decent shot.
Thanks for endulging me and my english.
Cheers
