    Hair splitting sharpness.

Sharpness is a very subjective thing and practical sharpness as compared to ultimate sharpness can not be defined without taking many factors into consideration. And in a work context you have to ask is a sharper edge actually a better edge than a slightly less sharp edge that is much easier to...

    Cast Iron Cookware

And while I'm at it. There is one more reason it is good to understand the link between Flaxseed oil and Linseed oil. On the labels of most Linseed and tung oil type finishes they note that oily rags can and will self combust! This is because as linseed oil dries it produces heat. In other words...

    Cast Iron Cookware

Sorry. My post could have been a little confusing though I did not intend it to be. DO NOT INGEST LINSEED OIL OR USE IT TO SEASON YOUR PANS. Flaxseed oil is safe for seasoning pans and ingesting and, while more expensive, could also replace linseed oil as a wood finish. Actually it would be a...

    Cast Iron Cookware

Being a furniture maker it is interesting to note that Flaxseed oil is just another name for Linseed oil. Linseed oil in a hardware/paint/woodworker's store is often mixed with chemical "dryers" which are poisonous and is also much cheaper than Flaxseed oil which you might find in your health...

Media Modern Techniques/Theories with Heston Blumenthal

I just put the "Heston Bluemanthal at home" book on my Christmas list after looking over his books on amazon (around 35.00). It looks like the most pragmatic book for me to start trying out some of Hestons recipes. I usually find a lot of my favorite recipes in the "cooking at home" books of...

Thanks for confirming my question. "Tulips" is a pretty song and the water stone "trick" seems just a bit cooler somehow - after knowing the song.

    Fujiwara FKM rehandled

Thanks for the link and the advise. As for the handle on my Fujiwara knife. The fit and finish on mine could have been better but mostly it just was not a good fit for my hand which is bigger than average. I plan to make some changes on the rehandle to better suit my hand.

    first saya...for hiro

Thanks for the fast reply. I haven't worked with padauk in some time and maybe it was so bad the last time I used it, that I have avoided it for all this time :-) I recently made a door in Zebra wood and it was a bear - rowed, splintery, smelly, hard and awful dust. My impressions are based on...
