What kind of abrasive is in the King Deluxe 300?

I haven't tried it yet but I think that if you attach a sheet or 2 of Tyvec to your flat service it should hold the sic as well as any strop material, and protect whatever you're using for a flat. I say it might need 2 sheets spray-glued together if you're using real course grit, like 60 grit...

    Diamond slurry suppliers

I was recommended the name of a supplier of MCD slurries in PA, good prices, but can't find it now. Can anyone help me out?

The perfect bartender cocktail lemon knife

Well I am late coming to this one, but my lemon cutter is a Geshin Kagero petty, also doubles as my steak knife, and boner for chicken and steaks and chops. It's SRS-15 super steel obviously does not chip, and for cutting lemons it will never need sharpening. Oh but that might be a problem for...

    Simple 220 grit stone question

The way I use my coarse stone it doesn't dish. I mark the high spots and concentrate my action there. Easy to do when you're just removing metal rather than making a razor edge. Daveb offered me a deal on a pink he wasn't using anymore so I grabbed it. I think the 220 will be most useful for me...

    Simple 220 grit stone question

OK so from what I've got here it seems the Shapton pro 120 is actually what I need, and like the 220 it's just $40. I'm doing mostly stainless and PM alloys, mostly cheap and thick-edged stainless of friends knives. I have the King 300 which is great for removing deep scratches before going to a...

    Simple 220 grit stone question

I need just a cheap 220 grit stone, cutting speed is most desired. On Amazon I can get either a Ninawa 220 Super Stone, or King combo 220/800, both go for the same $35. Having the 800 grit would be nice, but the faster stone is preferred if there's a significant difference, and especially if it...

Cutting Knife Skills and Technique Videos

Even with a stainless knife I can slice garlic .010", .020 or less at machine gun speed.

    Who collects antique Japanese swords?

OK, could have been a consortium of Japanese business types, anyway they were buying up swords like crazy back in the early 80's. I had been using a sword that sells these days for $50 on ebay, soft stainless, no distill taper. It held up well for years, but lately the wrapping loosened enough...

    N60 steel?

Since when do facts have anything to do with mass-marketing HRC numbers, or performance claims in general?

    Who collects antique Japanese swords?

I've actually done some training with a katana, but don't think that you can go to your local samuri school and think they are actually going to use that thing anything like a fighter would, lot's of stupid silly bull**** out there as in most oriental marshal arts. Aside from that the katana...

The sink bridge to end all sink bridges

This is a biggy, do the threaded holes have metal thread inserts?

    Misen (version 2) Review

Never retracted, aside from the gushing praise, Kenji was still using the Misen as his Icon knife long after the facts came out, and likely still is. You really have to wonder what possessed him. It doesn't lessen my praise of his website, just hope he never does anything like that again.

    Misen (version 2) Review

Did you mean "distal" taper? Most Chinese knives do have dismal tapers.

    Misen (version 2) Review

It's a smallish 8", but I've enjoyed using it. Great knife to have around for those you don't want using your good ones, and no one will know it's a $30 knife. The Chinese can make good product if you don't nickle and dime them on the price.

    Misen (version 2) Review

Thanks for the review. I believe they advertise AUS-8 for the steel. One review had the steel a rather soft temper. The Ihomeer is a China-made knife of faux Damascus AUS-10. I picked one up on Amazon for a mere $30. F+F was actually excellent, thin at the edge and of good temper, that...

    Cerax better for PM steels?

Yes I know about diamond spray, I recall the green stone, if the one I'm thinking of it was said to be too soft, grit was not too fine either. Recommended for dressing alumina stones.

    Cerax better for PM steels?

Jon, would you say your 6K diamond stone leaves a better edge here with the PM steels than alumina stones? After break in of course.

    Cerax better for PM steels?

Just saw on another post that Cerax stones contain silicon carbide, SC being harder than vanadium carbibes, unlike AO, wonder if any who have the 6K and/or 8K have found they put a better all around edge on the high vanadium carbide PM steels?

    240mm Sujihiki

It's made by the same company that supplies the Akifusa, basically the same knife but to Geshin's specifications, I believe the Kagero's F+F is a bit better, I've heard that said anyway, and Jon is known for being meticulous.
