Having just received my TF Cleaver in the mail I'm thinking about getting a Saya for it. I intend to be travelling around with it quite a bit and a saya would make things a lot easier. Looking for recommendations either for a premade saya that would fit it (225mm Long x 110mm High x 2.5mm at thickest) or for a custom saya maker (in the US preferably). Also, I've seen that a few saya makers offer various different woods, apart from aesthetics is there any reason to prefer one over another? Are some of them gentler on the knife, better at absorbing moisture etc?

In the cleaver's handle? They don't appear to be brass, they are a shiny silver colour like polished stainless.

as long as there isnt any sap in the wood to disrupt the moisture and cause the knife to possible rust you should be fine. if youre going to send it to a pro in the country i would highly recommend Isiah Schroeder. He is wonderful to work with, finished products are top notch, and he doesnt mind straying from his usual stuff. he just did a custom handle for me and it was impeccable. his saya work is of equal par.

Just thought I'd update in case anyone else is looking for a similar saya in future:

I decided to go with Isaiah Schroeder. Just a plain poplar saya, non-friction (pin) fit. Very happy with the apparent quality and price:

(These are Isaiah's photos but I just received the saya and knife back in the mail)

Thinking I might like to get some anti-corrosion paper to wrap the knife in when storing long term, or travelling in humid environments. Any tips on where I might be able to get a small quantity, all the online stuff I can find is large rolls for $30+ that there is no way I would ever get anywhere near using up.

Nice saya by Isaiah. I like his knives and sayas. As for vci paper, maybe ask on the bst board and possibly somebody will just mail you some in a letter envelope for free.

I bet there's some us knifemakers that would have as well. Maybe Randy
