Are susins really honyaki? AFAIK they're like Nenox, honyaki being just a term for high end knives...

They have priced their western style knives out of the market, as far as I'm concerned. If one were looking for a quality stainless single bevel knife, however, the value may still be there for this line.

Really, I never knew people felt this way. Haven't never handled one, I don't know. There is always super super high praise from JKI about Suisin though which always made me want one.

I don't speak for JKI, but at least on my part, Suisin gets a lot of credit for the kind of company it is. Very good quality control, reliable products, great design, etc. But one knife stands on it's own in the marketplace.
