Seeing what's out there in 210mm or 240mm if it's on the short side... Tanaka comes to mind, I've read a lot of good reviews in the forums. I know the R2s are a different price point than the damascus blue #2, but something used in the $200 range w/ Wa handle would work for me.

I'm also open to suggestions for other gyutos as I know some of you guys have had a ton of experience with different makers.

Thanks!

Metalmaster has the dammy in stock:

Three things to note:

The price he sells them at is fantastic.

It will take a long time to get delivered (think 3-4 weeks)

It has the plastic ferrule handle

The knife itself, absolutely fantastic.

Wow, nice. Not crazy about the plastic ferrule, but definitely one to consider for the price.

I have two R2 Damascus from Metalmaster, I relieved the choil and spine on my Worksharp and had them rehandled by Carter at CII Bladeworks. I very much like Tanaka blades especially for the price. I also have a 210 mm Kuriochi Tanaka from K&S.
