TBH I'm kind skeptical about 2 in 1s, if you use the grill pan the bottom/lid is gonna be scratched, and the grill pan is probably one of the more useless piece

Real talk though, as a U of SC grad I kinda need that. Wholeheartedly agree on the grill pan, I just want a skillet at that point.
I actually got a 8.5 skillet from Staub, they are always on sale for $99 everywhere, surprising big for a 8.5, tho if you are cooking for more than 2 people a larger one might be better. Daily Pan is a perfect couples’ pan for me

It was 100 dollars when I bought mine at 20230503... actually 50 because they had a 50% off sale at the time.
Their prices have gone up across the entire range.
It's a shame they aren't doing another 50% off sale. There's some of their models I'd consider buying but there aren't any that I need 2 of.

Most of the Debuyer pans are also 3mm. Though they do have some 2mm lines / models.
What really sets Darto apart is the rivetless design, and having some 4mm models.
FWIW though I also prefer rivetless, I have to admit the ones on the Debuyer never really gave me any problems, nor did any of them ever loosen up for me even after 10+ years of heavy usage.

Great if you're using it for frying or as a roasting pan in the oven. Not so great if you wanted to make actual paella or anything with fluids. They're lower than a normal frying pan.

I think where the 'pan as a lid' thing really shines is for bread baking in cast iron, since it makes it much easier to insert the dough when the whole situation is upside down. But again you'd want a flat surface for that, not a grill.

depending if they allow cancellations, they maybe using this pre-order to buy steel, etc, so they are covering their end with the pre-order $, but it's a pure speculation. i do not know how much they normally sell...
Thanks for the heads up! The wife has been making 2 sourdough boules at a time but we only had one dutch oven so she had to put one in the oven at a time and then swap out once the first was done. I picked up this steal and solved that problem. Saved her an hour once per weekish:
