UPDATE PRICE DROP TO $25 + cheapest shipping CONUS

I’m looking to trade for a soaker-Something between my JKI 1K/6K soaker - less toothy than the 1K and less smooth than the 6k - OR SELL this 4K stone outright since it’s kinda redundant. I’m not picky about getting a like-new stone, half-life is ok.

$35 CONUS + cheapest USPS shipping.

OR Trade. See above. I’m looking for a deal, don’t need a steal. [emoji16]

This IMANISHI TAMANGO 4K 205mm x 75mm x 25mm is almost new size and flat. For anyone that cares I measured various places with my caliper and the variation is 24.3 mm to 24.6 mm.

Transparency: it does have a small crack from using it close to a halogen lamp and letting it dry too fast right after I purchased it. The crack is 10 mm long, 30mm from one end. No signs of getting worse.

My goal is to improve the edge retention and still have some tooth the 1095 outdoor knives and low end kitchen stainless. Either the 6k is too smooth or I'm doing something wrong.

I’m short on funds otherwise would just go buy a stone from Jon at JKI, but that just had to wait a while.

How about a rika 5k, or suehiro cerax 6k?
Both are lightly used in good condition.
Pm me :)

Pretty sure I would come out ahead on the deal-very generous of you. To be fair I would have to wrap the Imanishi in a ten dollar bill before I shipped it off to you. ;)

If these are more-or-less splash and go, I'll hold off for now, but nothing that fits better comes up, I'll get the 6k and pass it around to my kids to try. I think the Suehiro are not perma soakers are they?

I would prefer a 3k-ish toothy finish soaker to fit between my Gesshin 1k / 6k combo soaker. The 6k just doesn't seem quite toothy enough for some of my knives.

They are perfectly fine to permasoak I believe. Some say the performance even improves with it being permasoaked.
The rika series and cerax series are pure soakers. None of the stones in this line are splash and go.

Yea, I think it would be fair if you paid for shipping for the trade :)
Anyway if you are keen to trade, you can pm me here
Thank you :)

I already sold off my rika 3k. If not i believe that would be a perfect fit for you :)

Hey Gene. Would you be keen on a jns red aoto? The synthetic one, it's around 2-4k grit.
I have one, you could top up a bit on your end if you'd like to trade. I haven't used it much and it's a very thick stone.

Maksim at jns says these are splash and go, but i think they benefit from a soak and aren't true splash and go stones. It's soft, slightly Muddier, gives a great finish and gives a pretty decent edge too.
Let me know if you're keen :)

Regards,
James

Hi James! Tempting! If I don’t get an offer on a soaker pretty soon I probably take you up on it.

From what I’ve read this is a soft stone, which to me should be really good at finishing up the edges following the 1K.

My preference though is instant gratification of grabbing a soaker or a super easy S&G.

@Gene, I wanted to jump in and say my Gesshin 1/6K works very effectively as Jon describes it - a splash and go stone that benefits from a brief soak. A longer soak does not make it feel like a soaker (IME).

A nice budget soaker set is the Bestor 1200 and Rika 5K.

Thanks for piping in Dave. Couple things I didn't know: soakers can feel different because they are soaking stones? and I didn't realize the 1K6K was a splash and go at all but like it because apparently I can permasoak it which is a convenience for me - just seems simpler to leave the stones in water. I worry too much about the frequent wet/dry cycles of splash and go stones - but that's just me. I keep a 220, Gesshin 400, and the Gesshin 1K6K soaked all the time.

I keep my 1/6K at work where permasoaking would be difficult. Do like it for quick touch ups on my "good" knives. 5 min in a third pan and it's good to go.

I think the soakers feel creamier and have better feedback than S&G. The S&G for me work quicker but definitely a "wham bam, thank you ma'am" experience. I keep thinking I'll get to a place where I have time to use nothing but soakers and JNats, but that won't be today.
