Looks like a turkey stone to me. What is the sound when sharpening a knife on it? Is it ultra fast and has a crunchy sound?

As for a touch up: Dalmore Blue, BBW, La Lorraine, Washita, Shapton 4k, Naniwa Professional 5k, Turkey Stone, Magog, Hindostan, ... everything that is fast with slurry but does not create a big burr, but only a fine one.

don´t think that the BBW is different to the normal Coticule. Ther garnets size is a bit coarser and not so concentrated and packed as with the Yellow Belgian Whetstone. But the range exceeds 4000 in my opinion and is more likely closer to 6000. At least the specimen I own. Who cares. Sharp is...

A much smaller factor i think. I always wanted to have a knife in Shirogami #1 - from the collectors point of view. I doubt that Shirogami #1 is the perfect match for gyutos, maybe more suitable for knifes where you treat the blade cautiously (Yanagiba etc. ) and where you don´t get hard contact...

I might suggest Pallares Solsona Carbon Cleaver, I do not own a cleaver but a chefs knife and they work the carbon really great. For the money, you won´t get any better maybe. have a look at bern., i think they have them.

Never had a TF in my hand, so I can´t judge the value. But it seems strange, that there is no definitive answer to the question. If the Nashiji and Maboroshi are equally, why spend nearly double for the Maboroshi line? Ok, I understand that there are more steps involved in making the Maboroshi...

So when it comes to choices: Who else forges white #1 guytos with very good heat treatment and has nice grinds? Matsubara (tall)? Nishida (too little taper, from what I can judge by pics), Kenji Togashi (maybe the best choice)?, Goko Hamono (just does not click with me), I am running out of options!

Yeah, the information was given to me by Gaku if I remember his name correctly. So still not wise. Who came up with the story of in-house forged and prelaminated anyways? So @Corradobrit1: you have the versions from the past? :) Anybody else can share his / her experiences?
