What to do with a stone that suddenly becomes scratchy?

Whenever this happens to me there are a few things I check to make sure it’s not some other variable. The most common problem by far is stone edges that are not rounded enough, so they chip out very easily especially under a diamond plate. I’ve also done corners with sandpaper just for good...

WTS Kiita Iromono Koppa and Antique Aoto

Kiita Iromono Koppa Hard and fine, an amazing razor finisher or fine polisher for knives. This one has some of the most intense coloration I’ve ever seen, and is incredibly pure with hardly any cosmetic blemishes at all. Truly a thing of beauty. Comes sealed, and with a genuine tomo nagura cut...

    Show your sharpening station

This is a sharpening cabinet I made with solid teak and mortise and tenon construction. The top has a sliding channel for stone holders 11” long, and a plexiglass viewing window to hold any water. It’s since been varnished, and the unfinished teak stone holders are absolutely covered in mud...

    J-Nat Club

Work has been slowly picking up, so these haven't been going through the paces like a Miyadaiku carpenter would put them through, so I haven't really noticed a big change yet. I have been trying to narrow down the progression if I can just to save time and stone, for example if I'm using a...

    J-Nat Club

This has me thinking about my setup. I'm a woodworker by trade and I use some really nice stones in my workshop. Maybe I should invest in some less stellar jnats if these beauts are going to be worn out in short order. They are harder stones, especially the Iromono, but I do use a diamond plate...

    Pennsylvanian Whetstones

Here's a little snack for you stone sharks out there. This was a find from last year - it's a harder shale, but the particles are very similar to the original brown stones.

    SOLD Kiita Iromono Jnat Koppa

Kitta iromono jnat koppa from an unknown mine. Lovely velvety feedback, feels like a lvl 4 to me and quite forgiving. Pink hues are seen from the side that will eventually show up on top. The swarf and polish pictures were after about 5 seconds of polishing, so it’s very fast and gives a fine...

lets have a new razor thread.

Thanks man. The original full hollow was done on a 2.5" wheel, so I wrapped some sandpaper around my 2.5" wheel and hand sanded through the grits. The section below the belly I just laid flat on the edge of some jnats to polish up. Actually turning on the grinder would have overheated it too...

    SOLD Massive Coticule/BBW natural combo

Massive vintage coticule for sale, in natural combo form with a BBW backing. Fast and medium-fine to fine, and super pure which is quite rare for this size piece. The feedback is really engaging, not glassy at all. The BBW is great as well, it leaves a nice bite. Coticules of this size are very...
