The Deals, Discounts, & Sales Thread

Seems like there used to be nice discounts at Rodriquez Butcher really frequently. I haven't seen any posted here lately though. Have these coupons dried up or am I just not paying attention?

Thanks, grabbed a 1000, to start upgrading from my Amazon King starter set of stones..

    Knife findings

And its a damn nice knife too, I can attest. These sort of under the radar knives are my sweet spot. The main challenge for a newbie like me (aside from budget issues) is sorting the terminology- multiple names for same knife, abbreviated/slang names, distinguishing model names from maker names...

    Cutting Board Advice

I switched from Epicurean to an eBay end-grain walnut, than about a year ago to a pair of Hasegawa boards. Not sure if the Hasegawas are any easier on the blades, but I sure like how light they are for a given size, and also perfectly flat. In our house, a cutting board gets a lot of use and...

Ordered two Haseagawa boards and also got free shipping, thx. I have a couple of the FSB brown polyethylene variety, now going try the softer rubber FSR kind

The Deals, Discounts, & Sales Thread

I think this is a GREAT idea for an ongoing thread. Learning about deals and discounts is the only reason I visit the "Knife Findings" thread, which seems to be where such posts have gone in the past. But "Knife Findings" seems to focus primarily on "findings" of rare, collectible, often very...

Best Gyutos Under-$200. What're your favorites?

I paid the prices currently showing on Aframes, all well under $200. I certainly wasn't planning to buy 4 new knives at once but was motivated by FOMO on the great pricing. Also that these knives, with their stainless cladding, are well suited to our "family" cooking environment. Takeshi did...

Best Gyutos Under-$200. What're your favorites?

I ordered 4 Wakuis from Takeshi at Aframes, after a "heads up" post here that he had a new shipment of them. 210 gyuto, 180 nakiri, 180 santoku, 150 petty Great prices; I like the knives a lot. Might upgrade the handles at some point, the stock ones work fine but are pretty basic. I'm sure that...

    Knife findings

Thanks for posting this. I made an order; prices seemed pretty good to start with; much better with 30% off. I'm not a knife collector or professional chef, nor do I have a large budget. , So opportunistically grab what look like nice knives for the money. I know these might be "entry level"...

    Recommendation for a Curry cookbook/resource?

Reading the OP's query more closely, I see they are interested in something broader than just focused on Indian or Thai curries. I picked up a used copy of THIS BOOK recently. It has a diverse array of curries from many different countries.

    First Gyoto under $300

I may have gotten the last 210 yesterday. But they still have a couple of 240s. Their list is lower than other places and currently $20 off that, with free shipping. In researching this line, it looked to me like it was not in stock most places that list it. If it was me, I'd grab one from...

    Knife findings

210 was OOS when I shopped last week. So I ordered and just received 180 santoku and 150 petty. Nice knives. Went back and ordered the 210, according to website the last one. But it seems they've been coming back into stock pretty fast. Great sale prices and free shipping; couldn't resist..

By the time I saw this, they had only one 210 left. That got scooped while I dithered. Oh well, I'm pretty set in that size, so probably for the better!

I caved and bought a petty and santoku. The 210 gyuto was sold out. The smaller knives will be appreciated in our family-oriented kitchen

    Looking for a petty 130mm-ish

I have the Miyabi "Fusion" version of this knife, which looks like the same blade shape and construction but in VG10. I got it for about $80 open box. It's one of our most used knives (myself, wife 14-year old daughter). Sharp, holds edge well, nice size and shape.
