Oh, his knives are usually that much cheaper? Hmm..might have to try them.
My last knife from him was a bit larger at 255mm x 62mm and set me back about $425.00. Higher than they used to be, but I still think they're a good deal if you can snag one direct.

I was bummed that I missed this one in a drop from a month or two ago. I love the brass cymbals being melted down for the ferrule:

No sure why it never dawned on me to post this here, but this maker @eddworks is in the middle of a pass around going on now and has a few pieces left available online:

I'll fully admit to being biased after trying 3 Gyuto and a tall bunka, but I think his work is very well done and that the performance far exceeds the price point IMO. The pass around is now full, but you can check out the thread here:

Cheers!

Seconded. Currently have the PA knife in my possession along with a gyuto from his Etsy and a custom nakiri. Wonderful performers for the price.

+1. I'll be posting a review in the passaround thread soon. Without getting into the details here, I currently have one in the works with him.

after reading through the passaround thread, had to pull the trigger on a 220x53 with a nice handle. pretty hyped to try it out.

for this purchase i would like to thank my wonderful CC company, who decided to pay for it(cashback rewards). as it turns out, if you buy enough knives, you eventually just start getting them for free!

@ 11.05 you can see the rig being used in the Shigefusa workshop.

Similarly, here @ 10.38 a different rig, similar process in essence.

It is very different process Shigefusa uses flat stones that removes low sports on whole blade

In Sakai they use powder on cork or balsa wood to hide low spots similar to fingerstones but with powder you can hide them better

With Shigefusa rig you actully flatten the blade and it makes much easier to maintain the finish with fingerstones or stones etc

For clarification:

Toyama Shuuji is the name of the smith who makes the knives we know on the forum labeled "Toyama" and "Watanabe." The knives labeled Watanabe are not made by Watanabe Shinichi at all; they are just sold under his brand. The workmanship is solely of Mr. Toyama's.

As far as finishing on stones goes, that implies that the geometry is set on bench stones. Maxim does not do this, he just polishes the surface. Neither the entire knife nor the bevels are fully stone-ready. For example, if you put the below on a benchstone, you would not find a nice hamaguri bevel with crisp shinogi.

Will add minor corrections
Toyama do not make all Watanabe blades, mostly Pro line, special and some low end blades he get from other blacksmiths

As for stones I use long and very flat stones so all low spots on the blade will be removed from big wheel etc as it is double bevel knife it will ofc not have crisp shinogi but it will have very nice hamaguriba from spine to the bevel

I just bought this one from carbon knives and omg 😱 straight fire 🔥
But thank you 🙏 brother for looking out and sharing this opportunity with me..! I’m truly grateful.! Tetsujin knives are awesome for the kind of hours that I put on them all ..! I have to say I agree that these knives don’t get the recognition they deserved..! Facts
They are all straight fire 🔥 ..!!
