This started as an experiment in touching up the blueing the iron cladding, it did not work out as intended! However the final result is not bad.

Kanetsune 180mm gyuto SK mono steel.
Pretty much "stainless" with a patina but it still gives all the colours after 15 years.
Kinda end of life at 40mm heel height; won´t be easy to replace. Perfect profile for that knife.

I think if you thinned it and got the heel to 35mm it could enjoy a new life as a long petty!

New to me tetsujin b2 suji from bst. Just arrived today and in time for a trip tip I had put aside for the arrival. I have to say, I believe this is my first non SS clad knife and the cladding on this is crazy reactive. Maybe even more so than the core. Anyways it looks pretty cool right now. We will see how long it lasts.

Yeah my tetsujin cladding is crazily reactive as well, not too sure if it's because it's a metal flow instead of kasumi

Mexican food x Msicard W2 water grilled knife.

I can feel the W2 edge struggling with the acid (tomato, mango). I'm thinking maybe i'll take the handle off to do a full polishing job here... but enjoying the patina for now.

I always worry when I get those orange spots near the edge like that. It feels like borderline rust. Am I worrying over nothing?

I was wondering about that myself. I assumed it wasn't rust as you could only see it at certain angles just like the other patina, and it does have any noticeable texture. I figure even light rust will have a noticeable change in texture on the finish. Also checked today and it started to fade into more subdued grayish red, but I didn't wanna say anything since I'm not 100% certain and this is the first knife with that color patina. It's only on the cladding too which is weird. The core is a rainbow blue.

Most, if not all, iron cladding react differently than the core steel.

Here's my Kippington after slicing some inexpensive beef. It definitely has some of that orange patina near the edge. I did let it sit wet for maybe 10 seconds after I rinsed the blade, so maybe that was a factor. Either way, I'm gonna reset with Flitz later this week, and try again with a cut of pork. I'll report back with the results!
