More experiments with etching. Tried to emulate cladding with a layer of nickel

From a maker perspective the delamination issue is disturbing, but from the end user perspective it's still a piece of hardened steel that is sharp on one side. And that sharpened side still cuts. If delamination continue to bother you, then why not just grind cladding away? You'll get a really...

Could the perfect cake knife be … a rectangle?

My light saber have never experienced any sticking. And if you cut raw meat it will make it grilled all while you are still cutting. I wouldn't use it on cakes however

Emmm... I don't see anything wrong with it. Snap a handle and use the hell out of it. Should last you a lifetime

Experiments with partial etching. In the end I want to get something similar to what Michael Lipinski is doing here https://www.instagram.com/p/CyEECDrsfns/?igshid=MWZjMTM2ODFkZg==

    Bold Predictions

I think I haven't in person :) But we are talking about predictions here and most steels used in knives industry have been around for decades. The recently appeared ApexUltra/MagnaCut doesn't really change the game. So I don't see how situation is going to be much different from what it used to be.

    Bold Predictions

I have knives with Rex121 core (which is the most abrasion resistant steel on the market according to Larrin's graphs), knives in S390 and K390, fancy Magnacut. They all dull overtime. Unless there will be a massive breakthrough in metallurgy, current steels can't be marketed as you have said

    Venev 100/240 & 400/800

Thanks! Markings are a bit different on mine. All Venev stones I've seen here list size of abrasive in microns and diamond concentration. Yours seem to have FEPA markings.(I wish mine have FEPA markings as well, as micron sizes feels alien to me)

    Bold Predictions

They have been known (under many different names) by KKF members for at least 10 years now. Why do you think that next decade is going be different from the previous one?

Can you please post a picture of those stones? I'm interested in seeing the markings on the stone.

"The Tetsujin Fall" sounds like a good title for a movie.

What Is Your Go-To Coarse Stone For Heavy Lifting?

I used to love Atoma 140 for their speed, but they wear out really fast and are quite expensive. Switched to Venev 200/160 micron (which is roughly 80-100 grit) and haven't looked back since then. In my experience Venev leaves MUCH smoother surface compared to Atoma 140. I think diamond stones...

    Finishing Magnolia Handle

That's actually a finished handle. At least that's how Japanese makers think :) Please post pictures once you refinish it. I don't see how anything can go wrong given you do go berserk with torch

finally something really unpopular to keep this thread on topic!

So a while ago I posted some experiments with welded bolsters in Do you even weld?! thread. One blade from that experiment got its handle today. Bolster area and blade itself will need some more sanding/polishing. And I'll make a proper pointed tip on stones later. And put a makers mark on...
