Hello all,
I'm looking for a full size bench stone
generally looking for a Maruoyama but open minded for nice examples from other mines.
feel free to contact me if you have one.
cheers,
Daniel.
Its the first HF I'm handling, I wanted to try his work for some time..
very impressed with the distal taper, the tip is extremely thin (maybe bit too much). its a WH grind for sure but cutting feels is pretty smooth. the steel is pretty good, harder than what I've expected. profile also pretty...
sometimes its hard to communicate using translate..
anyway Sakai is a very small place all the shops like kono, takada, baba hamono, tanaka and nakagawa are very nearby, Like a few min by walking. its very easy to create collaborations that way
cool blades and quite unique but I wouldn’t pay much over retail. 800 is a lot of money for what it is Imo
Personally i love the look of the yo handles but the balance is so off..
haha def Max, I've met with him during my visit at Baba hamono. hes doing the convex grind and Nishida san is doing the shinogi style. both working very nice, Morihiro is their master.
Its a kasumi finished and also 145sc, bryan claims its hard to source this steel nowadays so he raised the prices.
Something like 125sc or spicy white would be same like the old price and cheaper.
A couple of 210s ku came in, handles bit off but not too much wabi sabi to complain about.grinds pretty clean and thin. Distal taper actually pretty nice, The best ive had from heiji. Dimensions close to 220*52, both little over 200 gsm.
This is walter, mix breed, I found him and adopted 6 years ago. Hes probably about 10 years old..i got too many pictures its hard to choose, he got so many expressions
I love white 2# - mazaki and munetoshi both excellent, solid edge retention.
for white 1#- maboroshi feels unique, its super hard and gets screaming sharp but less easy to sharpen. jiro and y.tanaka (FM) both defiantly softer and easier on the stones.
have to try unshu someday..
