Hello everyone from Seoul!

Introduction aside, today I am writing a selling post for a Genkai Masakuni yanagiba.
I went to Japan this June and met the man personally, and was luckily able to pick up one of his work.

When I originally got the yangiba from Genkai Masakuni san, it only came as the blade.
It did not come with a handle, saya or a box.
I made everything other than the blade myself, including the handle, saya, box, and the silk pouch.

Saya & Handle:
The saya and the handle have undergone multiple urushi lacquer layering and was finished with chin-kin cherry blossoms using gold particles.
The saya has been constructed exclusively for this blade and is a perfect fit, negating the need for a pin.
Currently, the blade has not been glued into the handle.
After the purchase, if you want, I can glue in the handle prior to shipping.

Box:
The box is crafted using traditional Korean paper craft, called Hanji Craft.
This box specifically was made from the Go-sek Hanji Craft.

Silk Pouch:
The saya pouches have patterned silk exterior and uni colored silk interior.
The interior silk color is hand selected to aestheically match the exterior pattern.
The bottom portion of the pouch, which will hold the most weight, have been doulbe stiched for extra security.
The silk thread (used to hold the pouch closed) has been permanently held in place for user friendliness and aesthetics.
A high grade tassel has been added to add an overall Oriental feeling to the pouch.

Without further ado, here are the details on the knife:
Steel: White #2
Crafting Method: Mizu (water quenched) Honyaki
Thickness: 4.7 mm
Weight (including handle): 267 g
Blade Length: 320 mm
Total Length (including handle): 495 mm
Blade Craftsman: Genkai Masakuni
Polishing Craftsman: Minamoto Hakuo

Price:
$2600 including pp fees + the international shipping cost to your country from South Korea with signature confirmation and insurance (probably about $40-50).

This price includes: the blade, handle, saya, box, and the silk pouch you see in the pictures below.

Hello everyone!

I will be going on and off here to help translate, as Mr. Kim does not speak english well.
If you are thinking, "but his sales post up there sounds good?"
I translated that for him XD

He probably can talk with you using online translators, but if you have specific details you want to discuss, lmk.

Still not sold.

Some more information and pictures of hamon:

Minamoto Hakuo san's polishing and grinding is very expensive. It starts at 80,000 JPY.
Minamoto Hakuo and Genkai Masakuni's collaborative work is extremely famous and is called "Kohomasakuni."
Kohomasakuni nami hamon blades start at 200,000 JPY for 300 mm and 220,000 JPY for 330 mm.
FYI, Minamoto Hakuo san is now retired, so nore more Kohomasakuni's are made.

Pricing information on urushi lacquered sayas from Nenohi for comparison:
Base urushi lacquering starts at 36,000 JPY and goes up with length.
Black and red urushi lacquering starts at 40,000 JPY and goes up with length.
Chin-kin patterned urushi lacquering starts at 80,000 JPY and goes up with length.
These prices are just the sayas, excluding the handle seen on this post.

That being said, I think this is a fabulous deal if you are interested in some of the finer works of Genkai Masakuni.
