My GF just received a used yet new to her overlock machine but the upper knife's edge is buggered by needles or the likes...
She is now adamant that we can sharpen it so I gave her the old Lansky diamond set to give it a go, I estimate she needs to move the edge 1.5 - 2 mm on a blade 10mm long, single edged.

edit; it seems to work...as it now cuts....nowhere near as sharp as it should be ,but still....a 40 euro piece on a 5K machine

this not even the sewing machine, that is something else....(and a few K more expensive)

If you know someone with a Spyderco sharpmaker, it seems like a rod from that would be good for the job.

One of my best cheap purchases was a set of 5 sintered ruby rods, of varying diameters, from Ali Express. I use them all the time, for scissors and serrated knives. Cost to me: $13.81. Similar sets are on Amazon for around $30, which is still a bargain.

sounds good, the lansky set is diamond in 5 grit numbers, about a 2 centimeter wide and 12 cm long, seems to work as an interim solution.
