I am trying to get a clear answer of what the differences are in the ratings of these plates compared to the DMT line of plates. I believe DMT uses the ANSI or Mesh scale but I have a suspicion that Atoma is using the JIS scale as I have heard reports that these plates cut far more coarse then their stated ratings would suggest if the numbers were given in the ANSI or Mesh scales. Anybody able to confirm or deny this?

Yes in JIS(Japanese Industrial Standard) 6001R, so #140 is about 88 - 105 microns. Which converts to DMT would sit between XX and 95.

For the DMT’s at least from Coarse to XX Fine, the grit ratings run opposite of how they finish. Meaning, the Coarse finishes best and cuts slowest while the opposite is true for the XX Fine. Said another way, grit ratings generally do not correspond to effect for DMT’s.
I don’t know is this applies to Atomas or not.
Just know that with diamonds, it is easier to cut with the tip of a nail than it is the head.
