Hey guys, I am trying to justify keeping both of the isasmedjan damasteel gyutos I have bought but I don't think I'm going to be able to do it. I have already used the integral a few times, so I think I will sell the minty rose gyuto which has not been used.

For those that are unaware, Damasteel is a PM damascus steel, with the primary alloy being RWL34, which is an analog to CPM154 which has a great balance of edge retention, toughness, and sharpenability. It is heat-treated with Cryo to 62-63 by Jonas.

My asking is $900 shipped which is what I have into it after shipping+fees. Discounts available for fee-less payment methods.

Full specs: DCI Online 2022 230mm Gyuto (Available 12th November)

I am too emotionally attached to that one! But if this one doesn't move....maybe would keep this one and sell that one. Will keep you in mind if I decide to but for now, really want to keep the 250
Understandable. I really wanted to snag that one, but was busy traveling during the event. By the time I could check anything out everything was long gone.

The birchbark handle has an amazing texture like no other handle I’ve felt. Soft with slight give, like thin leather. So nice
Yeah it's amazing. I actually wish I had that handle on the integral because I don't want to let the handle go, but that's the way the cookie crumbles lol

I know its not necessarily the right place to ask the question but as this just sold I feel like its ok. Is there a video on how these blades are forged/made? Maybe something from Devin? I’d like to see how they achieve such cool knives like this as I know very little about Damascus. Jonas is extremely talented and would I’d love to learn more

Well not sure if you are aware but for something like this, Damasteel actually forges the pattern, you can watch a bit here:

Jonas then forges it to shape from there, I do know most just do stock removal to damasteel though, which makes this more unique. I think Jonas has a video of him forging out my integral gyuto from round bar stock to form the integral, next time I talk to him I will try and get a vid and send it to you

Do you know if the 230 was forged or stock removal?
It was also forged and then cryo treated to 62-63hrc! You can actually see the forge scale/blacksmith finish left on like the top 1/3 of the blade which is really cool, the damasteel finish shows through it, it's like semi transparent

I did notice it, but wasn’t sure if it was the lighting, camera etc. Cool that he uses that method when the stock removal is available to him. I was also looking at Alex horn‘s work . His appears to be stock removal.

Yeah pretty sure him and his shop mate Jamison Chopps were stock removal, and they also outsourced for cryo. Still awesome knives and they are great bladesmiths but I think this is a cut above, and were my choices out of everything at the show
