Just received this 240mm denka. I'm pretty pleased, you can see some wabi from the pics but it doesn't appear too extensive to me. I'm gonna get it rehandled anyways, and I've yet to see a straight wa handled denka. I may at some future date send it to Ryan at DC cutlery to thin and get s better geometry, but I wanna get a good feel for it first and see if it needs it and how happy I am with it. So it's a slight project but not a massive one. This is my first 240mm high end knife so it's gonna be put to immediate use. I actually have a bourguignon to make later so that will be its first task.

Also another thing to note, I've seen people's long lead times with tf. I got my knife within 6 weeks of ordering, they were lightning fast for me.

Lemme know your thoughts on how it looks and if you think it's in dire need of getting refinished.

They're made in batches so you might have been in the right place at the right time. At first blush it looks OK. Put your own edge on the blade and use it for a while. Looks thin enough to not need a regrind but you'll only know after cutting a bit of produce. Then report back.

Looks like a really awesome knife 👏

Best way to find out is cutting with it and seeing how you feel about its performance. Ryan raises shinogi line and thins blade road only down to lamination line makes for moving through food very easily without it feeling too delicate. Nothing wrong with having a thicker blade though, it’s just a matter of preference.
