Have received a new Miyabi 8" birchwood handle kitchen knife. Interested in finding the best ways to store, maintain, sharpen, and use the knife. Before using I am considering waterproofing the handle with Tung oil. Most likely with a 50 / 50 mix of raw tung oil and citrus solvent to aid in absorption. Suggestions are welcomed.

Welcome

Most knife geeks keep food safe mineral oil around for wooden handles and cutting boards.

I use a beeswax mix I got from Dave Martell. Not slippery

Beeswax with mineral oil is a great choice. I used it on all of my wa handle and saya.
