I made one of these out of some pallet stringers glued together to test out a number of things. It's not pretty, but it certainly gets the job done:

Awesome! One of those is on my list to make as well!
Nice! I remember that sales thread; went to look for some lumber to make my own but all I had was cherry (which is way too nice to waste on something like this.) Gotta admit, that pallet wood has a great 'rustic' look to it.
The other half is actually more pretty, IMO. I'm going to try and resist, but I'm very likely to turn it into the first revision of this design relatively soon...
