Hi guys,

I found your forum because of a thread about what are the best audiophile forums. More relevantly, I am an avid cook. I use Shun knives designed by Ken Onion. They are sold at places like Williams and Sonoma so pretty mainstream. They are pretty old and I could possibly justify some new ones and I KNOW that you guys will educate me as to what the best values, best performance etc..

Please consider me a resource, if I can be of help and thanks for letting me post on your forum. I know that you are pretty locked down for spam. I've owned TWO forums in the past and the challenge to combat spam is real.

All the best.

PS: I am in SF this week and have done TWO of THREE nights at Michelin Star places. The Progress, A16 were both great. Tonight is Altria (sp) which looks top-notch. I couldn't justify the 3-pstar places as they want like $500 a head. Too spendy. I would rather have new knives and a no. 2a from McDonalds :)

Welcome.

I did demos and cooking classes for a WS type local retailer that sold the Ken Onion Shun and later the "Rain" series. While he enjoys a good reputation for outdoor knives, I found his cooking knives to be almost unusable. Horrible handles, horrible grinds, horrible profiles. The forum, I'm sure, will be happy to help you spend all of your disposable income on some game changers.

welcome!
You should try Kiln in SF before they get their first star this year (and likely 2nd star the next)
Rich Table is also my standard go-to restaurant rec in SF.
Mister Jiu's for a twist on Canto food.

Welcome! This forum is a fantastic resource. Very knowledgeable participants who are mostly all very kind and helpful.

There's a questionnaire you should fill out and then post for people to properly recommend you some knives. The questionnaire covers important questions like cutting style, budget, sharpening, care/maintenance, etc. It will really help narrow down the recommendations.

ETA: Here's a link to questionnaire. https://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/threads/new-knife-questionnaire.63548/

Yeah, gotta have those gold plated silver cables!

Yeah, gotta have those gold plated silver cables!
This might cause some mass pearl-clutching among the hard core, but expensive cables/interconnects. — I have not noticed a benefit. My stupid expensive components still do it all when hooked together with the wires from half a dozen vcrs and disc players. I did buy the unicornium wiring, a/b’ed it, and shrugged.

It’s in the same boat as my million-dollar idea: extra-strength placebo.
