Hi guys help me )
I have a Shapton kuromaku 1000
And now for sale Shapton glass stone 4000 or kuromaku 2000
This would be a good combination what do you think ?
And which stone would be better to go with the 1000 ?

I like the Shapton Pro 1000 and 2000 sequence for a variety of sharpening tasks. A quick, no-frills tune up on a carbon knife, also good on stainless, even cheap stainless "house" knives. That said it would work well with the SG4000 as well.

Shapton Kuromaku (pro) 1000 is a very fast, but quite coarse. SG-4000 might be a good addition, just be warned, that it loads up a bit. Keeping some small nagura (stainless or natural) at hand to quickly clean the surface might be a good idea.

Naniwa Super Stones are usually quite slow and soft. I would prefer Naniva Professional (used to be called Chosera which was 5mm thicker for the same price) 3000 in that case, but it is quite expensive. I have not used the Shapton Pro 2k, but have heard good things about it. The SG-4000 will give a nice edge, but not too smooth. It is a thin stone, but then easier to store and transport.

P.S. Please use Google translator before posting :)

Both the Kuromaku 2k and Glass 4k are great stones you will not be disappointed with.

I see others are looking at this. I have heard good things about these Shapton Kuromaku's. They have a set of 4 stones #1000, #5000, #8000, and #12000. But I have read that #1000, #2000, and #5000 are the most useful. I could get the 4-stone set and add a #2000 to it. the Glass 4K could also be added. If what I have read is true I should not have to think about getting any replacements for them given their long wear life.
