Maumasi Smith & Bard monosteel collection

Spotted on Instagram - Mareko and his wife Sarah are collaborating on a new series. They're monosteel 1075, full tang, stock removal knives. They look to have his s-grind, and similar profiles to his other knives. They'll be sold through his newsletter...

Mert Tansu's semi-production line, Hunter Valley Blades.

Mert has launched a semi-production line, marked as Hunter Valley Blades. He just finished a batch of eight gyutos. They're kurouchi 52100 steel, 230-240mm x 56-61mm, with forged geometry (thick at the spine, thin at the edge). These are priced substantially lower than his typical stuff. He's...

Beyond ho: a simple burnt oak rehandle for an inexpensive knife

This is a 180mm Tosagata "Satsuma knife" from Japan Woodworker's Black Friday sale. I replaced the handle with burnt red oak. The handle is a burnt-in friction fit; I scorched it with a butane torch, wire brushed, and then oiled it.

Exclusive new sujihiki profile from Tojiro found on eBay!

Seems to have a bit of that karambit vibe going. Only missing the harpoon tip to be totally hip.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BqO-ZiSBR3c/?utm_source=ig_web_button_native_share Really cool project. I'm definitely excited to hear more about it. Thanks for sharing, Robin! I saw you've got that prototype in your kitchen - what are your thoughts so far?

Selecting an entry-level 210 stainless gyuto

I'm looking for a semi-stainless or stainless all-around 210mm gyuto, and I'd like your input. I'm trying to be around $120-160, but I'd also like to hear your thoughts of anything right around $200 that's worth saving longer for (eg, JKI's En line). Ideally, this would be a bit of a workhorse...

    Purported proprietary Ginsan #8

While trolling rakuten, I came across a company (Hidari Tozo) that claims to have an exclusive Ginsan #8 from Hitachi. They say it tested at 62HRC. This raises a few questions: 1) is anyone familiar with Hitachi having such a program? Property steels are nothing new, but using Hitachi-style...

    Hello from SW WA

Hi all, My name is Nick; I've been reading this forum for ages and decided to finally join. I'm a home user, and I do design/drafting for work. I'm very interested in manufacturing and materials, and I hope someday to get into modifying and making kitchen knives. For now, I mainly own knives...
