    The best dutch oven/casserole pot

I own a le creuset griddle and a cheap 20.00 one. Both are performing exactly the same over 8 years. I won't buy another le creuset as you can get the same stuff for a fraction of the price. Yes the paint might be a little better, but who cares when your paying 20.00 vs 120.00 Same goes for my...

    My new set up.

Taylor Eye witness are cheap supermarket knives. The wire belongs to a temp prob, its been moved lol. I am sure there will be more knives, but cost a small fortune getting started from the way it was.

Thanks for all your help. Picture a cheap burnt plastic chopping board with Fake Taylor Eye witness japanese knives that cost 20. 00 for a set and a herb station with broken jars and powder everywhere. Now I have this, all finished this weekend, also stained my own board from a piece of walnut.

Best Guided system for new guy

Thanks all. Apex is quite expensive. I will probably just keep freehanding on my old knives until I get the hang of it. Most youtube videos that try show you are very poor as its hard to gauge the angle on a video

Best Guided system for new guy

Hey. Sorry I posted about guides, but looking at reviews, some can scratch and also damage the stone. I seen the wedges which seem a little better, but yo are left free handing one you have left the wedge. What other guided cheap systems are there so I can get the hang of free handing? Thanks all

    Kitchen Scissors

I was looking at something more robust and bigger than the Joyce Chen and Misuzu. I am thinking something like this... And if they break I can just return them, cheap and cheerful https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06WRQQLCN/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A3CAPAPEPOO99J&psc=1 I know they are...

    Kitchen Scissors

I am just starting to sharpen, I am starting with guides for now, I know its a swear word for the faithful handfree folks, but I think it will help me get the correct angle and sharpening technique. I was thinking of something around the £20.00 mark, $25.00 or cheaper, they will be abused, but...

    Whetstone guides?

I was wondering if sharpening guides are that easy for a beginner. I want to learn to use whetstones, but would like to get the hang of it first. I was looking at minosharp and others and they seem simple, put on the spine and rub on the stone. Is it just a case of rubbing the knife on the...

    Kitchen Scissors

Yes, yes I know its not a knife, but they have their place in a home kitchen. Opening bags, cutting some bits of fat from a chicken ect.. Anyway, I have poultry scissors to cut the backbone to make spatchcock, but want some decent scissors for multipurpose use. What scissors do you all use...

Magnetic Knife Block - where art thou

On the topic of knife strips and blocks, how do you take yours out, I have a wood one, am I ok to just twist the knife away from the blade or just pull it off? Sorry to hijack kind of, just interested on how others take their knives off, my strip is quite strong.

New to knives, which knife to cut what?

I got a damaged Sakai Nakiri from Cutting Edges Knives.co.uk was really looking forward to my first true starter JKnife but there were micro scratches on the black plastic top and a white stress mark which looks like the plastic had been forced, I only received it 15 minutes ago, hopefully they...

Thank you all for your expert advice. I have a proper Nakiri coming today. I know you do not call Globals proper Jknifes but seriously £50.00 for a 21cm SAI Global Gyuto, thats just silly money considering they are £200.00 everywhere else, I had to get it, TBH I am glad I did, that knife feels...

New guy, new knives, need 3-4 in total

I was looking at a Deba, but I need to ensure its not going to crack if I hammer a bone with it. I was looking at a cleaver, but personally I do not like them, they are huge, and if I am only breaking down a small chicken, it feels you are using a machine gun to kill a butterfly. So many...
