For sale is a 195 mm Masakane gyuto. One of the NOS offerings previously available from hitohira dealers.

195 mm measured in a straight line from heel to tip.
44 mm heel height.
157 g

It's mono SK steel with the full bolster. Half/hidden tang. Super easy to sharpen like shirogami and takes a nice edge. Looks like there is a hardening line starting near the handle. Edit: As pointed out likely from welding the handle/bolster during production.

Thinned a little, mainly to remove the shoulders off the secondary bevel. Cleaned it up with some sandpaper but thinning scratches still remain. Blade has a right hand bias with some more convexity on the right face and flatter left face.

Let's say $75 $60 (AUD) shipped in Australia with the original box. Happy to send international but contact for shipping costs. Also have a 300 mm of the same variety I'm tidying up and could likely do a bundle deal.

That would make sense. I was never sure what it was from. I also thought it could have been the point where a stainless tang was welded like Moritaka but it is definitely still carbon. I'll update the description.
