Hello All,

Here's a bit of a different one for me, I had a hardened blank sitting around for weeks and just finally decided to get it done. It's fairly heavy for its size, and heavily biased, with a fairly long flat section. It has no ura, so it isn't a true kiritsuke gyuto, but notwithstanding.

This piece started as something of a forging experiment, and originally ended up over 60mm wide, but it developed some nasty twists in the quench which required me to abandon my original intentions for the blade and well, this is the final result.

  • Blade: 202mmx51mm O1 tool steel (64hrc) 320 grit hand finish
  • Neck: 16mmx18mm
  • Handle: 130mm, tapering from 26.6mmx23.0 to 23.9mmx18.6mm, scorched oak, oiled and waxed
  • POB: 50mm from handle
  • Spine: 4.58mm at the neck, 2.85mm at 11cm, 2.58mm at the tip start, .98mm 1cm from the tip
  • Grind: flat to convex RH bias
  • Weight: 190 grams
  • Relieved choil and spine
  • Edge: .1mm-0
Asking $205 U.S shipped with insurance in North America, for shipping to Europe or Australia I will cover the first $25 U.S of shipping.

Have a good weekend!

What are the "discolored" so to speak areas on the blade? This thing is so trippy looking and at this price it's getting hard to not buy it.
It's the heat colours from being burned into the handle. The same sort of thing as tempering colours. They start at about 350f as a light straw and transition to a bronze, gold, red, purple then blue before a light grey at around 800f or so.
